Nigerian wrestlers for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games are expected to depart Spain, where they participated in a Pre-Olympics Championship, for Germany, in continuation of the preparations for the summer Games in France.
According to a statement by the Secretary General of the Federation, Alhaji Mohammed Maigidansanma, the Team Nigeria wrestling delegation would depart for Germany in continuation of the training tours ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics in France later this month.
The wrestlers participated in the Spanish Grand Prix wrestling international event in Madrid from 5-8 July, 2024, where they competed in events like Greco-Roman, Freestyle Women and freestyle Men respectively.
Reuben Hannah (76kg) lost in the first round, Adekuoroye Odunayo lost in the quarter-final at the 59kg weight class, while Kolawole Esther (62kg) and Ogunsanya Christiana (53) won bronze medal each.
Alhaji Maigidansanma praised the girls with all assurances towards podium success in France.
The delegation is also expected to join other Team Nigeria contingents in Saabrucken, Germany for the training tours before leaving for Paris, later in the month.
Six athletes have been sanctioned to fly the nation’s flag at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. The team comprises five female wrestlers, one male freestyle wrestler and three coaches.
The wrestlers are Blessing Oborodudu (68kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Hannah Reuben (76kg), Esther Kolawole (62kg) and Ogunsanya Christinah (53kg) and Ashton Mutuwa (125kg) Men.
