Oshoala against equal pay for male, female footballers

Asisat Oshoala rules against equal pay for Nigeria women’s football team on grounds that the moral for such standard is yet to be established.

The move for equal pay between male and female athlete has been the theme of debate in recent time, which a considerable amount of female sport stars (especially at national team level) have approved that the bridging of gender pay gap should be launched.

However, Super Falcons Captain, Asisat Oshoala takes an exception of view as she thinks that Super Falcons are not yet fit to be on the same pay grade as the men counterpart due to few disparities and deficient structure surrounding the team.

“We don’t have a proper structure in my country and then you want me to come and start saying I want the same amount you are paying the Super Eagles? When we get to that level, agitations for equal pay can take centre stage.” Oshoala said in an Instagram live chat with Channels TV.

“I’d rather say give us a standard coach for the next five years and let the salary be constant and let the game bonus for my teammates be constant.

“And let us play a lot of friendly games as much as we can. And when we get to that level, we start discussing the next stage. It is something that has to be with a plan.”

The Barcelona women forward also took a turn on the Nigeria Women Football League pointing out that the League Management should have it improved and also take players welfare paramount.

“The league has to be constant. They have to look into the welfare of the players. Some players get paid, maybe N30, 000, a month or maybe N60, 000 maximum and that’s like a lot while some teams go six months without playing big games.

“They (League Administrators) are not just paying attention to the female league in Nigeria.” She concluded.
