The Chairman of the newly inaugurated Para-Athletes Association, Barrister Aiyelabegan Lanre Abdulkadir has called for more support from the state government for para athletes, in order to enhance their performances in the quest to win laurels for the state.

Barrister Aiyelabegan made the call when he paid a thank you visit to the Kwara State Sports Commission, for its support to the Association’s recently held Para Athletics competition at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The Chairman appreciated the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRasaq for providing the enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state, even as he solicited for more support for people with disabilities.

He thanked the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji for the support and opportunity to stage the one-day championship.

He said the championship was just a tip of the iceberg as the Association is planning to hold another championship before the end of the year.

While responding, the Executive Chairman thanked Aiyelabegan for his magnanimity in staging and sponsoring the championship, adding that it is sponsorship and partnership like what the Para Association did that the Commission seeks as government alone cannot do it all.

Magaji implored other associations to emulate the Para Association, which staged a competition barely weeks after the inauguration of all associations.

He explained that the Governor appreciated and care for people with disabilities, which informed the inclusion of people with disabilities among government appointed Advisers and on the board of the Commission.
