Ahead of the commencement of wrestling event of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Nigeria weightlifting team has departed for the host city, after a training tour of Germany.
The wrestling event at the Olympics is expected to commence on August 5th, 2024.
Among the contingents that left for France are the team Captain and Olympic silver medalist, Blessing Oborodudu (68kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), Hannah Reuben (76kg), Esther Kolawole (62kg), Christiana Ogunsanya (53kg) and US-based Ashton Al-Amin Mutuwa (125kg).
The team departed the city of Saabrucken in the early hours of Monday, after the Pre-Olympics championship in Spain and the week-long training tours in Germany.
The delegation, led by the Secretary General, Alhaji Mohammed Maigidansanma also has the coaching crew of Akuh Purity, Victor Kodei, Happiness Burutu and the Team Physio, Adam Kabiru Abdullahi.
The Team, under President (Dr.) Daniel Igali is determined and well motivated by the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, led by the Hon. Minister, Senator John Enoh and the support from the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Adeniyi Adewale, MFR.
The Secretary General earlier in the month led the team to Madrid, Spain, for the Pre-Olympic championship.
The Spanish Grand Prix was a wrestling international event held in Madrid between July 5th to 8th, 2024.
The team later joined other Team Nigeria contingents in Saabrucken, Germany for the training tours before leaving for Paris.
