World No 1 tennis player, Novak Djokovic has tested positive for coronavirus. It is alleged that the tennis star must have been infected after his Adria Tour tennis project held two events while ignoring social distancing.
World No 33 Borna Coric joined Grigor Dimitrov in having the disease confirmed on Monday, along with two support staff, including the world No 1’s physio.
These two events of the Balkan exhibition series stubbornly refused to make concessions to social distancing and players were seen cavorting half-naked in a Belgrade nightclub.
Speaking on Monday, British No 1 Dan Evans slammed Djokovic’s approach.
‘I just think it is a poor example to set,’ said GB No 1 Evans, ahead of preparing for Tuesday’s Battle of the Brits event, which sees the restart of tennis in the UK under contrastingly strict protocols.
‘Even if the guidelines in that country are not two metres… it is not a joke is it? Even if the guidelines were taken away in this country, I would still be trying to keep myself out of the way as much as I could from other people. I just think there has been a total disregard to that.’ Nick Kyrgios said Djokovic’s handling of the tour was ‘boneheaded’.
