40th YSFON Ramat Cup: Host Nasarawa, Kwara, four others pick quarter-final tickets

Six states, including hosts Nasarawa have booked a place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 40th edition of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Ramat Cup International in Lafia.

The six states are Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue, Gombe, Bauchi and Ondo states, with the other two expected to emerge tomorrow after the conclusion of all group games.

Kwara were the highest winners in today’s group matches, pounding Plateau 9-1 to end Group A with maximum points, having earlier beaten Nasarawa and Sokoto states 4-2 and 2-0 respectively.

They qualified for the quarter-final alongside host Nasarawa, who also defeated Sokoto state 2-0 today, to end the group stage with six points.

Benue defeated Gombe 3-0 in the last match in Group B to end as table toppers with four points, while Gombe also qualified with three points.

In Group C, Bauchi defeated Ondo 3-0 to retain the top spot with six points. Ondo also qualified from the group with three points.

Matches in the last group, Group D will be concluded tomorrow. Borno will take on Enugu, while Zamfara square up against Kaduna. Both Kaduna and Enugu have four points each ahead of the final showdown, while Borno and Zamfara have three and zero points respectively.

All the quarter-final matches will hold on Thursday August 14, 2025, at the same venue.

Kwara will take on Gombe from 9.00am, in the first knockout stage. Benue will tackle host Nasarawa in the second quarter-final from 10.00am, while Bauchi and the 2nd place finishers in Group D will tango, from 11.00am. The winner of Group D will face Ondo from 12noon, in the last quarter-final match of the competition.

QUARTER-FINAL FIXTURES
Kwara v Gombe – 9.00am
Benue v Nasarawa – 10.00am
Bauchi v 2nd in Group D – 11.00am
1st Group D v Ondo – 12 noon.

Semi-final matches have been scheduled for Friday, with the final and third place matches holding on Saturday. The competition is being held in honour of the late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
