Kwara United Football Club will return to the pitch for the Matchday 19 game of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) against Sunshine Stars of Akure on Saturday January 20, 2024, after missing the postponed Matchday 18 encounter with Heartland in Owerri, which has been scheduled.

The two matches were re-arranged, with Sunshine Stars tie shifted backwards to Saturday from Sunday, while the match against Heartland in Owerri, which was postponed because of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s second term inauguration on Monday January 15, now re-scheduled for Thursday January 25, 2024.

This is the first match Kwara United will be playing after the beefing up of the technical crew with the introduction of Coach Tunde Sanni as the new Chief Coach, in the aftermath of the three match ultimatum given, which by all standards, the Coach Dogo-led crew were unable to achieve above average results.

The team may have changed tactically and technically, but that can only be ultimately ascertained with the display and result against Sunshine Stars, who are obviously, dangerous visitors. That the team played out a goalless draw against Niger Tornadoes in their last match in Akure also makes Saturday’s encounter promisingly crucial.

Following their placement on the current league table, this is a match Kwara United would need to approach with utmost seriousness, at least, to compensate for the sacrifices of the government, stakeholders and the management.

The team is currently placed 14th on the log with 19 points, after four wins, seven draws and six loses, and minus three goal difference.

Meanwhile, ahead of the possibilities of signing more players for the second round hostilities, Kwara United has secured the clearance of Afeez Nosiru.

Nosiru, who joined the team few days to the close of registration before the season began, had his registration stalled because of International Transfer Certificate (ITC), as he was returning from a foreign club.

The midfielder will however, be available for selection if only he is fully fit to play.
