The Central Conference of the 22nd edition of the Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship kicks off today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, beginning from 12noon.
Schools from nine states are expected to compete for honours in both the female and male events at centre. They include schools from Nasarawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Benue, Plateau and host state, Kwara, as well as the FCT.
In the draws conducted yesterday, in the female event, Benue state was drawn in Group A, alongside Kaduna, Sokoto and Nasarawa. In Group B are Kwara and Niger states, and the FCT.
Niger tops the list in Group A in the male category, in a group that also has Benue, Sokoto and FCT. Host Kwara leads Group B, and will slug it out against Nasarawa and Kaduna.
Hafsatu Ahmadu Bello Memorial Arabic School, Sokoto will set the ball rolling against Government Science Secondary School, Nasarawa state in the female category from 12noon, as four matches have been scheduled to hold today.
Father O’ Conel Science College, Minna will take the centre stage against CAC Secondary School, Makurdi in the first male encounter by 1.00pm, while St. Anthony Secondary School, Ilorin will play Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja in the second female game, by 2.00pm.
The last game of the day, and the second in the male event will be between St. Anthony Secondary School, Ilorin and Government Science Secondary School, Nasarawa state, by 3.00pm.
Other schools participating at this centre are Zarumai Model School, Minna, Queen Amina College, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, Akpur College, Gboko, Benue state and Theological College of Northern Nigeria Secondary School, Bukuru, all in the female category.
In the male category are St. Anthony Secondary School, Kwara, Sani Dangyadi Unity Secondary School, Sokoto, Christ Comprehensive College, Kaduna, Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja and Government Science Technical College, Bukuru, Plateau state.
Hostilities at the Central Conference is expected to end on Thursday May 19th, after which winners in both categories will have emerged.
