First Lady Six-a-side football competition gets Kick-off date

Fourteen female football teams have registered for the maiden edition of the female football championship tagged “1st Lady (Mrs Olufolake AbdulRasaq) 6-a-side Female Soccer Tournament”, which is being packaged by the Female Football Development Committee of the Kwara State Football Association.

In the draws conducted on Monday at the FA Secretariat, six teams that will participate in the Schools and Academies category were drawn into two groups of three each, while the eight teams for the clubs’ category were drawn into two groups of four teams each.

Abimbola Football Academy, Hawau Babes and Offa FC were drawn in Group A in the Schools/Academies category, while Kolo Amazons, Baba Imole female football team from Osi and Pro Games will play from GROUP B.

In the clubs category, Abruka Queens, Isin Queens, Unilorin team and Ajike Babes will play from GROUP A, while in Moje Queens of Erin-Ile will slug it out with Moro team, Unilorin Director of Sports team and Elerin Babes in Group B.

According to the organisers, the championship is expected to hold between March 24th – 31st 2021, at the open pitch of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

Chairperson of the organising Committee, Hajia Segilola Alaya disclosed that the championship, which took place 17 years ago is meant to fish for hidden talents from the grassroots, and to encourage parents to enroll their wards in football activities.

She appealed to stakeholders to contribute to the development of female football in the state.

Hajia Alaya, is the Chairperson of the Female Football Development Committee of the FA.
