Garland, as ex-players of Fabulous Sparks FC holds reunion in Ilorin

It was celebration galore on Sunday when the old players of Fabulous Sparkling Sparks Football Club of Ilorin held its reunion dinner and gets together, sportsbash.com.ng reports.
The event which held at Henry George Hotel, Adewole, Ilorin saw old members of the then famous Football Club converged to rejoice and share memories of  their old days as team mates.
The reunion dinner witnessed the coming together of ex-players and friends who have gone ahead to record numerous life accomplishments in their various fields, over four decades of their departure.
Speaking with sportsbash.com.ng shortly after the event, the Chairman of Old Fabulous  Sparkling Sparks, Mallam Baba Alausa Ahmed described this year’s reunion as fantastic and unprecedented.
According to him, “this gathering is unique in the sense that we have come together to brainstorm toward a common purpose and to forge ahead by helping each others where necessary.’
“We have gathered here today in unison after we had parted ways many decades ago. This is a fantastic reunion. We are very happy to come together brainstorming for a common purpose.
“Our vision is to forge ahead as I want to liaise with the affluent ones in our midst to try and help some of us who are still struggling for survival, ” Alausa said.
He added that plans are on the way toward raising funds for the widows of about 25 of their colleagues who are deceased, and also to raise youths backs in the name of Sparks.
“There are some of us who are still hustling for economic survival. We have plans to address that. We are also planing to raise youths back in the name of Sparks.
“Equally, we have about 25 of us that are deceased, and up still now we are yet to reach out to them. We are working toward this too,” he assured.
Alausa however, used the medium to recall the good days of Fabulous Sparkling Sparks Football Club in the state, saying the club was ranked one of the best teams in Nigeria then as it won Taiwo’s Cup of 1983.
 “This club started in 1977 when we left secondary school. We were called Sparks initially, but we had to birth Fabulous team as a result of our exponential growth.
“We went for the Ramat Cup proper in 1980 and we came out third place. The competition then was so kin.
“We left for Enugu and we came third. After then we played at semi-final at 1983 when we became a champion of Taiwo’s Cup,” the ex footballer explained.
Also speaking, the former Majority Leader of Kwara State House of Assembly, who also doubles as the Scribe of former Fabulous Sparkling Sparks Football Club, Hon.(Dr)  Kayode Ibrahim Omotoshe alluded to the fact that it is high time the ex-players give back to the society that made them, hence the reason for the reunion.
“The reason for this gathering is simple. We want to remember the past. We want to remember our present and we want to see what effort we can make for the future. And particularly our basic contribution to our society.
“In our team today, I can say with all sense of modesty that we have not less down 80 per cent as University graduates. Amongst us we have Army Generals, Controller of Immigration, Commissioner of Police and Engineers in different parts of the world.
“What we are doing invariably is to give back to the society that made us. We want our up coming young ones to grow and develop,” Omotoshe stressed.
