Amid delight and admiration by Kwarans and sports lovers in the state over the unprecedented achievements made in the sports sector since the inception of the present Administration, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq yesterday again distributed sporting materials to selected secondary schools in the state.
The event, which took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, was another phase of the activities lined up by this administration to rejuvenate and develop sports in the state.
On different occasions earlier, the AbdulRazaq-led Government had delivered sporting materials to schools, sporting associations and agencies.
48 schools, drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas of the State, benefited from this batch.
While delivering the items to the representatives of the affected schools, the Hon. Commissioner of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mrs. Nnazua Kolo, said that Governor AbdulRazaq is fully aware of the crucial role sports plays in society.
Mrs. Kolo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Iyabo Funke Banire, said that the government will continue to promote sports in schools since the desire of the administration was to build up grassroots sports, which she disclosed will yield many prospects for the state and the Nation, calling on the beneficiaries to use the kits judiciously.
She also assured the invitees to be expecting more of items for other sports from the government.
In his opening remarks, the Director, Sports Development, Alhaji Olusola Abubakar Sheu, noted that the emergence of this administration has introduced a new dimension to state’s sports sector, adding that this was justified by the realisation of the 7th Kwara State Sports Festival.
Responding, representatives of the beneficiaries thanked their benefactor and promised to use the items to actualise the purpose for which they were distributed.
Some of the items delivered included footballs, basketballs, volleyballs and volleyball nets.
Also in attendance were the Director, Personnel, Finance and Supply, Alhaja Fatima Abolore Jimoh, Director, Youth Development, Alhaja Aishat Mohammed, Deputy-Director, Sports Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako, the Proprietress, Abimbola Female Footbal Academy, Chief Mrs. Abimbola Olaoye, and others.
