Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq paid an unscheduled visit to the on-going Prudent Energy handball league on Wednesday evening, watching one of the most exciting game of the tournament between Plateau Peacocks and Edo Dynamos
Expectedly the Governor used the opportunity to visit his team, Kwara Adorable Angels, who are currently 3rd on the log having played seven games, winning six and drawing just a game, scoring 212 goals conceding 151 goal with 20 points behind Safety Babes and Edo Dynamos who are 1st and 2nd on the log.
The Governor also visited Kwara tennis team, who are doing the state proud at the on-going 2020 Central Bank of Nigeria National Open Tennis Championship.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mrs. Joana Nnazua Kolo, and the Permanent Secretary, Barrister (Mrs) Iyabo Funke Banire led the State’s Contingents to Abuja, for the two teams.
The Adorable Angels of Kwara and the Kwara state tennis players are participating in the on-going 2020 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League and 2020 Central Bank of Nigeria National Open Tennis Championship respectively.
Both the League and the Championship, taking place at the MKO Abiola Stadium Complex, Package ‘B’, Abuja, began on October 30, and November 6, and will end on November 14 and November 16 respectively.
According to the statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Sangodare Ayinla, the Commissioner, who evaluated the performance of Kwara players in the on-going EVENTS so far, described the present administration in the state as a potent drive for sports development, noting that the body language of the Governor and his genuine passion for sports development are the boom behind the stellar feat they are gathering.
She disclosed that the performance of the players illustrates proverbially that new water that has sprung in the state is breeding new fish.
Raising a hope of victory on the part of Kwara players, Kolo enjoined the players to concentrate on the mission to bring glory and honour to Kwara, wishing them a healthy triumph.
Also in the press statement, the Permanent Secretary noted that only the Handball game has only female players, players of the tennis game are of both male and female categories.
Banire then applauded both the Adorable Angels and the Kwara tennis players, saying that they have proved the worth of the State in sports competition.
She further commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for creating wider opportunities for youths to display their skills, potentials and talents to bring Kwara to the book of prestige on the map of the world.
