The 5th edition of Kwara State First Lady U-14 Boys and Girls Inter local Government Table Tennis Championship to honour Ambassador Professor Mrs Olufolake AbdulRasaq ended at Community Secondary School, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area of kwara State last Thursday, with Asa and Isin Local Governments emerging champions.
According to the Organiser and Coordinator of the project, Prince Dare Omowumi Adebayo, Kwara State is blessed with talented players at the grassroots, hence the idea of taking the competition round all the Local Government Areas.
He described the 5th edition as a huge success because all the players and officials gave their best and the host Ilorin East showing tremendous hospitality.
Prince Dare eulogised the wife of Governor AbdulRasaq as a great amazon whose love for children can only be likened to a passionate and kind mother who gave all the support to the players.
He commended Anbassador Professor (Mrs) Olufolake AbdulRasaq for encouraging the children by reminding them to study and combine their sports talents to become an all-rounder
The Kwara State First Lady was represented by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Adisa Magaji, in company of Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako, Hon. Lade, a member of the Sports Commission and the Head of Coaching, Mrs Patient Lawal, who is former national weightlifting champion, among others.
Earlier in her speech, the DPM of Ilorin East Local Government Council, Hajia Binta Aliyu congratulated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for changing the face of sports development in the state with the provisions of sports facilities in all the nooks and crannies
She stressed that the Council will continue to give priority to sports to further enhance physical and mental status of the students who came from all the 16 Local Government Areas.
In the Boys Singles event, Surajudeen Abdulwaris from Asa won gold, while Bamigbola Stephen of Isin won silver. In the Girls Singles event, Yunusa Nuriyat from Asa won gold, beating
Oluwatolase Abigael from Isin in the final.
Stephen and Abigael from Isin won gold in the Mixed Doubles, after beating the pair of Jamiu and Ramat from Ekiti in the final.
Awards and prizes were later distributed to deserving winners and personalities, including the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Bata, Coach Bola Magaji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, the Principal of the CSS Oke Oyi Oja and Sportspro News Publisher, Bayour Issah.
