HYPPADEC pledges support to Kwara State Sports Commission

The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Area Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has pledged to support the Kwara State Sports Commission towards the state’s participation in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State. 

The Commission, led by the State Coordinator, Hajia Alhassan Ajara Ndama said they were sent by HYPPADEC to the Kwara State Sports Commission, to support the athletes who have been making the state proud by winning laurels.

She explained that the youth have to be supported because, they are future leaders and should be motivated as they prepare to participate in the seventh National Youth Games in Asaba.

Hajia Ndama disclosed the HYPPADEC was established to help communities that are prone to ecological flood menace, especially during this rainy season, as water dams are about to be released.

The Commission, she said, has done a lot to assist farmers in its catchment areas by providing fertilisers and supply of life jackets for people in the flood prone areas.

According to her, the Commission, as a of matter urgency, will go out on sensitisation to the people in the flood prone areas, adding that a lot have been done to train the youth as part of Commission’s Youth Empowerment programme.

She disclosed that HYPPDEC is operational in Plateau, Nasarawa, Gombe, Niger, Kogi Taraba and Kwara states, with headquarters in Niger state.

Hajia Ndama hinted that currently, the Commission is operating in five Local Government Areas in Kwara, namely Edu, Patigi, Baruuten, Kaiama, Moro and Asa in Kwara state, and are about to extend their services to other areas in the state just as it is doing with Kwara State Sports Commission which is outside its operational schedules.

The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji in his response, appreciated HYPPADEC  for extending its assistance to the Kwara State Sports Commission as it prepares for the National Youth Games.

Mogaji requested the HYPPADEC to  consider the Sports Commission in the supply of its life jackets as the Commission  needs it at the swimming pool.
