Cycling is set to take a new leap in Kwara State as the Director General of Khadijah Toyin Musah (KTM) Foundation, on Friday February 4, 2022 inaugurated the Sub- Committees for the maiden edition of Kwara State Track Cycling Championship.
The inauguration ceremony which was held at the Conference Room of the Kwara State Sports Commission heralded the championship aimed at discovering and raising formidable cycling talents across the nooks and crannies of the State of Harmony.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of KTM Foundation, Dr. Khadijah Toyin Musah stated that the initiative is a by-product of her organisation’s resolve towards engaging the youth productively, while also discovering the talents that abound in the state.
Dr. Musah, who is also a Board member at the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) noted that “this championship which will feature public and private schools across the state will further enhance the development of cycling as a sports and help young cyclists maximise their potentials”.
While appreciating the willingness of the Heads of Sub-Committes which was inaugurated to work for the success of the ground breaking initiative, she expressed her optimism in their qualitative and professional services towards delivering a championship of repute.
In his own remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, who was represented by the Stadium Manager, Wale Obalola commended the organisers of the programme and assured them of his support.
The Acting Chairman of Kwara State Cycling Association, Alhaji Shehu Lawal also lauded the initiative which he said will raise the bar of cycling to the level of prominence it deserves.
Head of Committees inaugurated are Coach Garuba Musa for the Technical Committee; Bolaji Oloyin Lateef- Marketing and Sponsorship; Dr. Bello Hamza for the Medical and Paramedics with Hospitality and Welfare Committee having Mrs. Adepeju Obaniyi as its pilot.
Also, Security,Traffic and Crowd Control has Raji Adegbite Mikahil as its head, the CEO and Publisher of Sportspro News, Bayour Issah will be championing the cause of the Media, Publicity and Mobilization, with Coach Lukman Lawal heading Technical Study Group.
The championship has been scheduled to hold on February 25 and 26, 2022, in Ilorin.
Guests at the event includes Jimoh Bashir, Chairman Kwara State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN); Alhaji Saka Imam, the Deputy Registrar of Kwara State University, Malete, who also doubles as a Board member of the KTM Foundation and Suleiman Yusuf, Chairman of Sports Officers Association, among others.
