After more than seven years of inactivity, the iconic scoreboard at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, has finally been remounted, as the process of restoring and remodeling it to meet modern standards begins.
The scoreboard, once a proud centerpiece of the stadium, was violently brought down by a heavy storm in 2018, and since then, it has remained grounded, weather-beaten, and abandoned.
Yesterday, Saturday, November 29, 2025, the scoreboard was mounted, with engineers and technical experts expected to commence work on the digital scoreboard.
The process of restoring the scoreboard followed the ongoing broader infrastructural turnaround of the stadium embarked upon by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ensure it meets CAF and FIFA standards.
The pitch, stands, lighting, the dressing rooms, and others have been touched, and now, the scoreboard is being reinstated.
The Chairman of Kwara FA, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, who is supervising the project, said that the mounted scoreboard stands not just as a piece of equipment but as a concrete symbol of the Governor’s resolve to return Kwara State to the front row of Nigeria’s sporting states.
For football stakeholders, the restoration of the scoreboard is much more than a technical achievement; it is a fulfilled promise and a renewed vote of confidence in the state’s sports sector. It enhances match coordination, improves spectator experience, and aligns Kwara with national and international standards.
“Once the scoreboard becomes operational, the State Stadium will be better positioned to attract high-profile competitions from the NFF, NPFL, and other sporting bodies. It takes vision, commitment, and political will to revive a facility abandoned for over seven years.
“Restoring the scoreboard after so many years is not just fixing a piece of equipment; it is reviving our pride. Governor AbdulRazaq has shown again that he is intentional about sports development.”
The Governor’s investment in sports infrastructure, youth development, and grassroots competition continues to yield results, and the remounting of the scoreboard adds yet another milestone to his administration’s growing list of achievements.
“As the new digital display lights up the Kwara Stadium once again, fans can now look forward to clearer match graphics, a modern game-day experience, and an atmosphere befitting a state that prides itself on rich sporting history.
Also being worked on are the floodlights, which will ensure that matches will be fixed for nights.
