The Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated its Grand Patron, His Royal Highness, Alayeluwa Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba AbdulGaniyu Ajibola Ibrahim MFR, Olusookun II, on his 80th birthday.
The sports writing body equally congratulated the Monarch on the celebration of his 40th years on throne.
While delivering the message of SWAN at the palace of the Octogenarian today, the Chairman of SWAN, Jimoh Bashir described him as a bridge builder who is living a life that is worthy of emulation.
“The Executives and entire members of SWAN congratulate our Grand Patron, on your 80th birthday, as well as the celebration of your 40th years on the throne’, he said.
SWAN prayed for more years on earth for the Monarch, who has continued to contribute to the development of humanity, especially through sports.
He was given award for his contributions to the development of sports by SWAN in December.
Oba Olusookun II was presented with the award today, and was also given a special plaque to commemorate the dual celebration.
He was instrumental to the partnership between Erin-Ile and Germany, on the development of female football in Kwara and Nigeria.
While receiving the awards, the Monarch commended SWAN for the recognition, and prayed for continuous harmonious relationship among members.
He pledged to continue to do more for sports development.
The Elerin was born on March 2, 1942, and was appointed as the 20th Elerin of Erin-Ile on September 8th, 1981.
Oba AbdulGaniyu Ajibola Ibrahim was presented with a Second Class Staff of Office on his coronation day on February 5th, 1982. His status was elevated to First Class, on November 1st, 1991, and member of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs.
Present at the presentation ceremony are the Chairman of Kwara YSFON, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola, Secretary of SWAN, Olayinka Owolewa, the Assistant Secretary, Ayodeji Ismail, ace photographer, Abdul Momoh, family members and well wishers.
