Kwara United set for tough NPFL road tests in Lafia and Maiduguri

Kwara United will this weekend, and next weekend embark on double away fixtures in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchdays 12 and 13, taking on league leaders Nasarawa United in Lafia and El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.

The Harmony Boys are keen to consolidate on their impressive form, having recorded two home wins and two away draws since Coach Ashifat Suleiman was confirmed as the club’s new Technical Adviser.

Coach Suleiman, known for his creativity-driven and possession-based football philosophy, has injected renewed confidence and style into the team, a transformation evident in their last five games.

Despite the challenges associated with consecutive away fixtures in the NPFL, the players have expressed determination to maintain momentum and push towards their season targets, including a strong league finish and a potential FA Cup defence.

Meanwhile, the team will be without winger Issa Gata and midfielder Akanni Akeem, who are nursing injuries.

Akanni sustained a hamstring injury early in the match against Remo Stars, while Gata picked up a knock during training. Both are expected to return to action before the home fixture against Shooting Stars later this month.

Kwara United currently sit 8th on the table with 16 points from 11 games, while Nasarawa United lead the pack with 22 points from 11 matches. Sunday’s clash in Lafia is not just a North Central Derby, but also a renewal of an age-long rivalry between the two sides.

Having edged the Solid Miners in previous meetings, the Harmony Boys will be looking to repeat the feat, though the stakes are higher this time with both teams in contrasting positions on the log.

Fans can expect intensity, passion, and a fierce contest as 90 minutes in Lafia decide who takes the bragging rights.
