Kwara Wrestling Association presents architectural design on proposed gymnasium

As part of the efforts to complement the numerous developmental strides of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as regards sports development in Kwara State, plans are under way to have a Wrestling Gymnasium built in the state.

This came following the resolutions of the Board of the Kwara State Wrestling Association, to contribute the association’s quota to the development of sports in the state by creating avenues and opportunities for sports-talented young ones in the state to display their gifts. 

A press statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Sangodare Ayinla, disclosed that the Commissioner, Mrs. Joana Nnazua Kolo, and the Permanent Secretary, Barrister (Mrs.) Iyabo Funke Banire, hosted a delegation in respect of the proposed gymnasium in the Ministry today, 18 November, 2020.

Receiving the architectural design of the proposed gymnasium, the Commissioner spoke on the timeliness of the project, pointing out the various positive effects of the proposed edifice to the state.

She added that the project will complement the various structures the present administration in the state has put in place to re-define the condition of sports infrastructures in the state.

Thanking the Kwara State Wrestling Association, the Commissioner said that Governor AbdulRazaq’s ingenuity has inspired and informed the foresight of sports stakeholders in the state to invest in what will later translate into wealth and glory for the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister (Mrs.) Iyabo Funke Banire, described the development as another vast feather to the cap of the sports sector in the state.

According to her, the impact of the project on Kwara sports enthusiasts will be immeasurable when actualised.

Expressing delight over the project, she explained that the initiative will aid, in a greater manner, the development of wrestling in the state

While presenting the architectural design, the Chairman, Kwara State Wrestling Association, Chief Augustus Ikenwa, noted that the proposition to build the gymnasium grew out of the resolutions of the Kwara State Wrestling Association.

He disclosed that the association resolved to come up with the project having noticed the queues of achievements in sports the present administration has brought to reality.

He, therefore, requested for an expanse of land, which will be used for the wrestling hall,  from the government.

He promised that the the idea conceived will go through implementation and be actualised, adding that the agenda of the association for building the gymnasium is to develop wrestling in the state.
