Kwara State female football team has emerged winners of the gold medal of the ongoing 6th National Youth Games, winning two of the three round-robin encounters, and losing one.
The six points garnered was enough to win them the gold.
Imo state team benefitted from their protest against Delta state to finish with four points, same with Kwara State, but had a superior goal advantage.
Delta fielded an ineligible player, a player which was identified as Heartland FC player, against Imo state, and the match was awarded to Imo state.
While congratulating Kwara team for at least finishing within the medal range, the Chairperson of the Female Football Development Committee of the Kwara State Football Association, Hajia Segilola Alaya has said that her Committee will continue to work hard towards the development of girl-child, especially through football and vocations.
She also added that the Committee will break new grounds in ensuring that more female clubs spring up in the nooks and crannies of the state, in a bid to aid the growth of female football in the state.
Hajia Alaya, who cheered the team right from their first match of the National Youth Games commended the doggedness of the girls in the competition.
According to Hajia Alaya, we have organized series of seminars to sensitize our female folks, and we are going to do more, as we broaden the scope of our operations.
The strong member of the Female Football Interest Group (FFIG) charged the Kwara team to remain focused, and maintain a high level of discipline.
She commended the Kwara State Sports Commission, being led by the Executive Chairman, Mallam Bola Mogaji and the Kwara State Football Association, under the leadership of Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa, for the opportunity.
