The newly elected officers of the Kwara State chapter of the Association of School Sports Officers (ASSPO) were today, Wednesday July 23, 2025, inaugurated, and charged to revive sporting activities in schools.
The 11-man Executives were inaugurated at Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin.
While deliverting his keynote address at the ocassion, the Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji charged the new executives to leave up to expectations, even as he pledged total support.
He commended the association for coming together despite the challenges, as he called on other stakeholders to support the executives in making the difference.
The Executives were inaugurated by the Director of Sports, Mallam Ibrahim Bako.
The Director of Sports for All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mrs. Abimbola Olaoye commended the newly inaugurated executives, even as she called for transparency and show sincerity among ASSPO, in their activities.
She also appealed to the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Sports Commission and other stakeholders, to support ASSPO.
Also in his speech, Mallam Usman Ubandawaki charged the new officers to bring back the glory of school sports through various forms of activities and sponsorship.
While delivering his speech, the new Chairman, Adébolá Moses Olalekan said that the inauguration didn’t just mark the beginning of a new tenure in ASSPO, but a new chapter in the journey of the association.
He said that his administration was committed to promoting excellence in school sports.
“Our vision is multifaceted, but at its core, it’s about fostering a culture of fairness, sportsmanship, and mutual respect. We aim to create an environment where young athletes can thrive, where officials are empowered to perform at their best, and where schools and educational institutions see the value of sports as an integral part of holistic education.
He highlighted the key objectives of the new executives to include enhancing training and capacity building, strengthening partnerships and promoting grassroots sports development.
“We are not naive to the challenges that lie ahead. We know that the landscape of school sports is ever-evolving, and we must be adaptable and responsive to emerging trends and challenges, but I am confident that with the support of our members, our partners and the broader community, we can overcome these challenges and achieve greatness”, he said.
He announced Alhaji Tunde AbdulKareem as the Patron of the body, and Alhaji Muri Adi as Special Adviser.
Other Executives of the body are Aliyu Ayinde (Vice Chairman 1), Busari Alawaye (Vice Chairman 2), Sulaiman Olatunji (Secretary), Mustapha Kadri (Assistant Secretary) and Saliu Lateef Dalegan (PRO).
Also on the list are Shorun Esther Iyiola (Treasurer), Musa Kabir (Financial Secretary), Aliyu Aminat (Welfare Officer), Kolawole Jamiu (Social Director) and Yusuf Tunde (Chief Whip).
