Coach Usman Abdallah has expressed strong confidence in Remo Stars’ chances of preserving their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) status, as the Sky Blue Stars prepare for a decisive Matchday 37 showdown against Bayelsa United on Sunday at the Remo Stars Stadium.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, the Remo Stars Technical Adviser described the fixture as a defining moment in the club’s fight against relegation, insisting that his players are mentally and physically ready to secure the maximum points needed to boost their survival hopes.
“The team is fully prepared and highly motivated for this game,” Abdallah said.
“Everyone within the technical crew understands the importance of this match, and the players are determined to deliver. It is a very important fixture for us, but we are approaching it with confidence and focus, just like every other game, with the aim of taking all three points.”
The former league-winning coach, who took over the team in late February 2026 during a difficult phase of the campaign, has been widely praised for steadying the squad and improving performances in the closing stages of the season.
Despite their position on the table, and with no opportunity to engage players during the process, Coach Abdallah shouldered the risk of accepting to coach the team, and is on the verge of steering it clear of danger.
Abdallah also highlighted the unity within the club as one of the major reasons behind the team’s renewed fighting spirit, commending the management for its unwavering support throughout the challenging period.
“The relationship between the management and technical crew has been excellent, and that has reflected positively on the players. The support we have received has been tremendous and it continues to motivate the team to fight until the very end,” he stated.
Despite the club’s struggles this season, Abdallah maintained that the players remain determined to ensure that Remo Stars retain their place among Nigeria’s elite clubs.
“Even though we are in a difficult situation, the players understand the responsibility before them. We want to finish strongly and ensure the club remains in the NPFL. That is the target, and we are ready to give everything to achieve it,” he added.
Speaking on the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Four, Coach Usman Abdallah lauded the presence of Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, describing it as a major source of motivation for players eager to prove themselves on a bigger stage.
According to Abdallah, Nigeria remains richly blessed with emerging football talents, many of whom are only waiting for the right platform to shine.
“We have an abundance of gifted young players in this country, including several in our academy system who are hungry for opportunities. I must commend the Super Eagles coach for closely monitoring both NPFL and NNL players for possible national team invitations,” he said.
The experienced tactician also charged Nigerian coaches to embrace innovation and continuous learning in order to remain competitive in the modern game.
“Football has gone beyond the traditional methods we were used to. The game keeps evolving, and coaches must consistently improve themselves through modern coaching education and professional development if we want to meet international standards,” Abd’Allah stated.
Speaking on the importance of the Super Four competition, he noted that the tournament provides newly promoted teams with a vital opportunity to evaluate their squads ahead of life in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“The Super Four is more than just a competition. It gives clubs the chance to assess their players, identify areas that need improvement, and fine-tune their playing philosophy before the new NPFL season begins,” he explained.
Abdallah concluded by expressing confidence in the quality of players within the domestic league, insisting that Nigerian football possesses enormous untapped potential.
“What we are seeing here confirms that Nigeria has quality players in abundance. With the right exposure, structure and opportunities, these players can compete successfully at the highest level,” he added.
