Former Kwara United Football Club Coach, Abdullahi Usman Biffo, has praised the Nigeria National League (NNL) Board for setting a new benchmark with the ongoing Super Four championship in Ikenne, describing the tournament as historic, highly competitive, and a fitting preparation ground for life in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Coach Biffo, who monitored Matchday Two proceedings at the Remo Stars Stadium, said the quality of organisation and intensity of matches have completely changed the perception of the NNL Super Four playoffs.
“This Super Four is highly competitive and electrifying. The intensity of the games has forced teams to remain alert and disciplined, with no room for complacency or performances below expectation,” Biffo said after the matches.
The experienced tactician spoke from a position of deep familiarity with the competition, having previously guided the defunct Giwa FC through the Super Four campaign during their rise to the topflight, while also leading Niger Tornadoes Football Club in another memorable playoff appearance.
Drawing comparisons with previous editions, Biffo noted that the Ikenne tournament stands out for its improved organisation, competitiveness, and tactical discipline among participating teams.
“I expected a little more from some of the teams, but I also understand their desperation to emerge champions of the 2025/2026 season. Every club here knows the importance of carrying winning momentum into the NPFL,” he added.
Biffo further urged the promoted clubs to use the tournament as a reality check ahead of the challenges awaiting them in the topflight.
“This competition has exposed areas the teams need to improve on. By now, the clubs should know the positions they need to strengthen and the kind of quality players required to survive in the NPFL,” he explained.
Biffo also advised managers and technical crews to brace themselves for a more demanding football environment.
“I will advise the coaches to prepare better because this is no longer the NNL many teams used to know. The NPFL is for clubs that are fully ready to face pressure, competition, and expectations head-on,” Biffo stated.
The 2025/2026 NNL Super Four will conclude on Friday at the Remo Stars Stadium, with Sporting Lagos FC taking on Inter Lagos F.C., while Ranchers Bees FC face Doma United FC in the decisive fixtures that will determine the overall champions.
