Kwara United Football Club U15 team today, April 15, 2023, defeated their Doma United FC counterparts in the first match of the ongoing NPFL/LaLiga U15 Promises football competition in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Sulaiman Olatunji scored the first goal in the 39th minute of the highly enterprising encounter, as Abdulazeez Abubakar and Irebamide Qudus added the second and third goals in the 55th and 60th minutes respectively. Doma United got a goal to reduce the deficit in the closing minute of the game.
Sulaiman Olatunji was voted as the Man of the Match (MOTM).
Kwara United was drawn in Group B alongside Akwa United, Sunshine Stars and Doma United. Akwa United had earlier yesterday defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1.
Kwara United will file out against Akwa United on Monday, April 17, 2023, by 8.00am, while Sunshine Stars will tackle Doma United on Tuesday April 18, 2023, by 9.00am.
Earlier before the match against Doma United, the Chairman of Kwara United, Kumbi Titiloye had motivated the players, promising N5, 000 for each goal scored, and N20, 000 for a win.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of the team, Bashir Badawiy has charged the players not to get carried away with the victory over Doma United, as they still have a long way to go in the competition.
“I congratulate you on this wonderful feat, especially been our first match. But I must remind you that it will get tougher as you move further in competition. Remain focused, and don’t get carried away.
The Group matches of the competition are expected to run between Thursday April 13th and Saturday April 22nd, with two teams expected to advance to the quarter-finals from the four groups.
The first and second quarter-finals will take place on April 24th, and the third and fourth quarter-finals will come up on 25th April, while the semi-final matches are scheduled for April 27th, 2023.
Third place and final matches will hold on April 29th, as the competition will be rounded off on April 30th, with an award night.
