OJ Academy pledges to sustain Kwara monthly tennis tournament

The Proprietor of OJ Tennis Academy and sponsor of the monthly OJ Tennis Championship in Kwara state, Ojele Oluwasegun Sunday has pledged to sustain the programme designed to discover and groom young tennis players in the state.

While speaking to pressmen during the final of this month’s exercise, Ojele, who was former Kwara and national tennis player said it was a demonstration of his passion for the sport, and his desire to give back to where he started the game.

“I am excited, because I started my career here before playing at the national level. When I came back, I was not impressed with what I met on ground here, so, I have to introduce this monthly programme.

“I already have a structure on ground, a Tennis Academy in Ibadan, and bringing it here was because I started my career here.

“Apart from the competition, which I hope to sustain, I donate canvasses and cartons of tennis balls to the association also on monthly basis”, he added.

Ojele commended the players and officials for making the competition a worthwhile exercise, even as he commended the government on the constitution of Kwara Sports Commission.

The Chairman of the Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji, who watched some of the matches in company of some of his members also pledged to raise the bar in sports development, and also provide the needed equipment and kits.

Dayo Irelewuyi defeated Wuraola Mojeed in the final of the Men’s Singles to claim gold, while the duo of Maleek and Tosho Yusuf won bronze.

Bunmi Awe won the gold in the Women’s Singles event, Rachael Adunoye won silver, while the duo of Awe Bamidele and Shakirat Wuraola won bronze.

In the Men’s Double event, the pair of Folarin Lawal and Tosho Yusuf won gold and cash. Atanda Qoyum paired Ogunmofo to win silver, while Maleek and Dani Iliyasu paired to win bronze.

All the winners also went home with cash prizes.

There were also exhibition games for the Veterans, and wheelchair tennis.
