Vice Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi has restated his readiness to promote sports to ensure general wellness and fitness of students.
Prof Akanbi who dropped the hint when he flag-Off Cycling Club yesterday in Malete, underscored the importance of sports to the general growth and developments body.
He told newsmen that the introduction of Cycling Club was borne out of the need to engage students in sporting activities to guide them against social vices.
Prof Akanbi added that the purpose of establishing Centre for Wellness and Creative Art Therapy was to ensure general wellness and fitness of students devoid any form of illness
Professor Akanbi therefore appealed to the students to take advantage the Institution Sport potential to partake in sporting activities with a view to making the University proud.
Also Speaking, Director Centre for Wellness and Creative Art Therapy, Dr Khadijat Toyin Musa, said the center with the support of the Vice Chancellor had been adequately equipped to offer technical and professional training to all interested members of the University community.
Dr Musa disclosed that the center will soon come up with other related programmes such as mental health talk box, and enlightenment Programmes to encourage the University community to consciously subscribe to Wellness activities in order to ensure healthy lifestyles
In his remark, Chairman Sports Committee of the University, Prof Abubakar Laaro praised the Vice Chancellor for his commitment to sports development, describing it as a morale booster for students and the entire staff of the University.
In his own remarks, the Dean Students Affairs of the University, Prof Mashood Mahmud Jimba, described the launch of Cycling Club of the Institution as timely, saying that it would go a long way in breeding future athletes for the University and Nigeria at large.
