Ahmed Kewugbemi receives scholarship from Seyi Akinwunmi Foundation

    Most Valuable Player of the Kwara U12 League, Hamed Kewugbemi has received the sum of 100,000 naira scholarship from Seyi Akinwunmi Foundation.

    The presentation of the scholarship funds was presented by the Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Governor, the Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi, the administrator of Kwara Football Academy, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako and the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji at the office of Kwara Football Association in Ilorin on Tuesday.

    The Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Idris Abdullahi (Thuraya) said Kwara Football Academy has the potential of producing national team players across all grades.

    Abdullahi said Hamed Kewugbemi is a testament that Kwara State possesses young players in the underage categories.

    He said, “I believe Kwara Football Academy can dominate the age grade national teams. I want to appeal with the State Government to endeavor to host the National U15 and U17 Football camp so that Kwarans can make it to the senior national teams in the future”.

    The Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, Ismail Ayodeji said the scholarship has added to the milestone of the FA chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi.

    He commended the Chairman for being transparent in the selection of the young players adding that the scholarship given to the son of the popular Islamic cleric will change the mindset of residents of the state who sees sports as just recreation.

    The administrator of Kwara Football Academy, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako said, “The potential are abound in KFA and have exceptional players at all underage levels. I am in KFA to reposition and restore the lost glory of the academy.

    “I want to appeal to Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq through the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji to convince the state government in invest in the academy hugely.

    Responding the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bolakale Mogaji said the lack of trust has affected the fortunes of KFA.

    Mogaji said the scholarship of Ahmed Kewugbemi will be a major stepping stone for greatness in the academy.

    The former Technical Director of Squash Federation of Nigeria advised the academy on identify foreign scouting programs that can help select players for European teams.

    Meanwhile, the Father of the beneficiary, Alhaji Soliu Kewugbemi thanked Allah for bringing the child through him adding that he wanted his son to be a cleric.

    Kewugbemi commended the administrator of Kwara Football Academy, Alhaji Ibrahim Bako for his support in ensuring the boy achieves his dream of becoming a football player.

    He applauded Kwara State Government, Kwara State Commission and Kwara Football Association for their efforts in identifying football talents.

    The father of Ahmed Kewugbemi has deposited the scholarship funds into the account of Kwara Football Academy for the welfare of his son.

    Present at the scholarship presentation includes Kwara State Football Association board members and officials of Kwara Football Academy.
