The Chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa has said that many factors were taken into consideration in arriving at the decision to adopt the conversion of the pitch of the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex to natural grass.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Ilorin, Mallam Idris, popularly known as Thuraya also added that the process, which is ongoing must be allowed to fully mature, before been put into use.

The artificial grass of the pitch was installed in 2010, and questions were raised as to its suitability to host Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches involving Kwara United Football Club ahead of the commencement of the 2021/2022 season. It was later approved following the touches made on it by Reform Sports West Africa.

And immediately after the season, a Philanthropist, Barrister A. U. Mustapha offered to complement the efforts of the government by bankrolling the installation of the natural grass, and also for its maintenance for some period of time.

“Apart from the fact that the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) frowns at artificial turf, we have no grass pitch in the whole of Northern Nigeria. we have grass pitches in Uyo, Port Harcourt and some other places in the South, which was why international competitions are taken to those places.

The process is on, and Thuraya maintained that it will mature in the next few weeks, assuring that Kwara United FC will return home to their base as soon as its confirmed matured enough for use.

“We have taken cognizance of the fact that the fans of Kwara United FC are missing their team, but we must ensure things are done properly, as rushing the process will not make the exercise worthwhile.

Apart from Kwara United FC playing on it, we also have the advantage of hosting international matches, and as well, hosting athletics events that we cannot host when we had artificial grass on it.

“I will therefore, urge us to be patient, and keep supporting Kwara United to do well in the league in their adopted home for now’, he added.
