The Kwara state Director of Sports, Mallam Alarape Ibrahim Atanda has commended the victorious Kwara Adorable Angels for winning the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball League, even as he charged them to replicate the feat at the forthcoming national Sports Festival in Edo state.
Kwara Adorable Angels on Friday defeated Plateau Peacocks 29-28 to become the champions of the Handball League.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, Mallam Alarape also commended the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for personally attending and motivating the team at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, venue of the game, adding that his visit was a great motivation for the team.
Governor Abdulrazaq paid an unscheduled visit to the Prudent Energy handball league on Wednesday evening, and expectedly, he used the opportunity to visit the team, Kwara Adorable Angels.
He also praised the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mrs Joana Nnazua Kolo and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Iyabo Banire for lifting the morale of the players when it mattered most.
He added that the state Governor provided the team all the necessary support they needed.
The Adorable Angels won the league with 26 points; Edo Dynamos was second with 25 points, whilst Safety Babes placed third with 24 points.
The champions of the female category carted away the prize money of N1. 25 million naira, whilst the second and third received one million naira and N750, 000 respectively.
The team is being handled by Coach Isiaka Atanda.
