The death of veteran journalist, Mallam Yusuf Feruke, has continued to draw an outpouring of grief from colleagues and admirers across the country, with Alhaji Olatunji Mohammed El-Lado describing the development as a monumental loss to the Nigerian media and sports community.
In a condolence message issued in Ilorin today Friday, November 7, 2025, Alhaji El-Lado, a respected sports administrator and community leader, said the late Feruke was a journalist of rare distinction whose professional conduct, integrity, and dedication left an indelible mark on the nation’s media landscape.
According to him, Mallam Feruke was not only a chronicler of sporting events but also a man who stood firmly for truth and fairness in reportage.
“Mallam Yusuf Feruke was a man of honesty, passion, and deep commitment to journalism. His writings promoted unity, discipline, and professionalism. Personally, I have lost a friend and a brother who believed in service, humility, and justice,” El-Lado said.
He recalled Feruke’s decades of impactful journalism, particularly in the area of sports development, where he inspired and mentored younger reporters to uphold the ethics of the profession.
While commiserating with the Feruke family, the State Sports Commission, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji El-Lado urged them to take solace in the fact that the late journalist lived a life of purpose and honour.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Aljannah Firdaus, while giving his family and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“We have lost a rare gem, but Mallam Yusuf Feruke’s legacy of honesty, mentorship, and professionalism will continue to illuminate the path for future generations,” he added.
