The Special Assistant on Security Matters to the Kwara State Governor, Hon Moshood Gobir has commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his youth and sports development initiatives.
Speaking to newsmen after watching Kwara United beat Akwa United 1-0 in the Matchday 31 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex yesterday, April 21, 2024, he said that the initiatives have elevated the security status of the state.
According to him, the renovation and construction of sports facilities, as well as supports in various forms towards the participation of Kwara athletes in both national and international meets are unprecedented, and commendable.
“Starting with the renovation of the Baseball Park, the Governor has renovated virtually all the facilities at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, and has added new ones; the table tennis hall and the eight glass back squash court, which will both be delivered very soon.
“Above all, the Governor recently awarded the renovation and upgrading of the Indoor Sports Hall of the State Stadium Complex. The edifice was constructed 47 years ago, and renovating it will improve both the commercial and sports sector of the state and beyond.
“The state has also not missed any national sports meet since the assumption of office of the Governor, which, in a long run, has improved the security system of the state, and a peaceful atmosphere all around.
Hon. Gobir, who said that he has been encouraged by the numerous gestures to also complement government’s efforts through the contribution of his own quota to the development of the system commended Kwara United players and officials for rising to the occasion in the match against Akwa United yesterday.
Even as he charged them to sustain the tempo and finish the season in good position, he called for the total overhaul of the team ahead of next season, so as to compensate for government’s commitment to the club.
“Kwara United should be a team that will be competing for honours, and not struggling, going by the commitment of the state government to the club. The management needs therefore, to totally overhaul the team ahead of next season”, he added.
