Jagunlabi unity football tourney introduced to promote grassroots development

The need to empower the youth in various communities in Kwara state has motivated an American-based philanthropist and football enthusiast, Barrister Abiola Abdulkareem to organise a football tournament tagged Jagunlabi Unity Cup, with clubs from Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Isin and Irepodun Local Government Areas taking part in the maiden talent hunt soccer competition holding at Osi Central School playing ground.

The tournament, which started last week is expected to run till final day Thursday 22nd of July 2021, with the winners smiling home with fantastic prizes.

According to the Media Officer of Jagunlabi Foundation the organiser of the event Shola Sulaiman said the sponsor and promoter of the maiden edition, Barrister Abiola Abdulkareem is expected to join other dignitaries including the Olosi of Osi and scouts from Nigeria and abroad for the final next week as part of the Ileya celebration.

While some matches have already been decided, the match day 5 of the tournament saw Unique FC defeating Golden Stars FC 2 -1 while Ayedun FC and Omumu FC played out a 3-3 draw.

10 teams registered for the championship, and they include Omu-Aran United, Osi United, Unique FC, Omumu FC, Etan United, Dream Chaser FC, Young Elite FC, Oro United, Golden Stars FC and Ayedun FC.

The competition enters the quarter-final stage tomorrow.
