Leadership has been described as guiding and impacting outcomes and enabling groups of people to work together to accomplish what they couldn’t do individually. It’s also described as “something you do and not something you are”.

While lecturing Kwara United Football Club players on setting goals in life at a seminar ahead of their trip to Rivers state, for their Matchday Three encounter in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) today, Thursday October 11th, 2023, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Phreestyle Sports, Shogo Shodunnke also said that it is the action of a leader that inspires trust and energy and not their words, and that the main factor influencing team performance is the leadership style of the management and the coaches.

According to him, “talents wins games and teamwork wins championships.

Among the topics discussed at the seminar are: setting goals and achieving it, leadership roles in modern football manager, building a functional and productive team, having positive mindset and life after football.

“Goal is a purpose or an ambition that a team wants to achieve. Goal is an objective or purpose, and goal provides you with focus and directions. You make a plan for achieving a goal and you work to complete it”, he stressed.

Shodunnke identified that goal setting refers to the process of setting specific, attainable targets for individuals or groups. He added that goal setting involves the development of an action plan designed in order to motivate and guide a person or group towards a goal.

Among the steps he highlighted in setting goals writing down the goals, think about the results wanted, creating smart goals, which entails specific, measurable, attainable, reachable and time bound. Also to be considered are creating an action plan, create a timeline and take action and evaluate the progress.
