Kwara United to play SGFC Athletics Sunday in State Federation Cup semi-final


Kwara United Football Club will on Sunday, March 12th, 2023, square up against SGFC Athletics Football Club in the first semi-final match of this year’s State Federation Cup competition, at the Kwara Football Academy, beginning from 10am.

The draw for this year’s edition placed Kwara United FC, who are the defending champions’ bye in the first round, and will battle SGFC Athletics tomorrow for a place in the final, and the ticket to participate in the national finals.

Also tomorrow, from 12noon, Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Ilorin) Football Club will take on Foresight Football Academy in the second semi-final match, at the same venue.

SGFC Athletics Sports Club earlier defeats House of Prayer FC 2-0 to set-up a semi-final clash with Kwara United, while Foresight Football Academy also defeated Dickalo FA 3-1, to earn a ticket to play Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin FC in the semi-final match.

The winners of the two semi-final matches qualify for the national competition.

The final matches for both male and female competitions have been fixed for Wednesday 15th March, 2023, beginning from 4.00pm. The two female teams, Kwara Ladies FC and Moje Queens of Erin-Ile that registered for the female competition will clash in the final the same day, before the male competition final.

The state FA thanked Kwara Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing the needed atmosphere for sports, especially football to flower and flourish, even as he seeks the support of the government for the eventual representatives of the state at the national competition.

In a message by the Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa, he commended the stakeholders, which includes the Kwara State Sports Commission, the referees, Kwara Football Academy and all others that made the competition worthwhile for their support.

He called on well-meaning Kwarans and philanthropists to come to the aid of the FA, in terms of sponsorship and support.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of Kwara United FC, Bashir Badawiy has charged Kwara United FC to put in their best in the semi-final match tomorrow, and also use the match as part of preparations for the second round of the league.
