Kwara United Football Club stamped their authority over Katsina United with a hard-fought 1–0 victory today Sunday October 19, 2025, in Matchday 9 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl, George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
A stunning long-range strike by Ibrahim Yahaya in the 82nd minute secured maximum points for the Harmony Boys.
The encounter was tensed from the onset, as both teams created scoring opportunities frim the first half.
Johnmark Aule’s shot and Bright Babatunde’s header were denied by the Katsina United goalkeeper, while Kwara United’s shot-stopper, Nurudeen Badmus, made crucial saves to keep the visitors at bay.
After the restart, Kwara United came out stronger and dominated possession in search of the breakthrough.
Tactical substitutions saw Issa Gata and Ini Emmanuel replace Junior Aimufua and Gidado Toheeb, adding more power up front, a move that paved the way for Yahaya’s decisive goal.
Later in the game, Akanni Akeem replaced Philip Ozor, while Seun Ogunribide came on for Kabir Mohammed, as Coach Ashifat Suleiman’s side looked to preserve their lead.
Katsina United pressed for an equalizer late on, but the Harmony Boys’ defensive line stood firm to seal all three points.
Speaking after the game, Coach Ashifat Suleiman described the match as tough, but good, adding that the winning mentality of his players earned them the victory.
He said his players would not relent, as the target for this season is to fight for the league title. “We won the FA Cup last season, and this season our focus is the league,” he remarked.
Ibrahim Yahaya was deservedly named the Cyteck Man of the Match for his outstanding performance and decisive goal.
With this result, Kwara United now have 12 points from nine games and sit 10th on the NPFL log. The team will next face Rangers International on Sunday, in Enugu.
