The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mallam Hameed Adio (OLY) as he celebrates his 70th birthday today, January 20th, 2025.
Equally, Kwara United Football Club extended heartfelt felicitations to veteran sports broadcaster and journalist, Mallam Hameed Adio, on his 70th birthday.
In a statement signed by Mallam Ayodeji Ismail, Chairman Kwara SWAN, the association described Mallam Adio as a pioneer in the sports media industry, who has inspired generations of journalists with his work ethic, professionalism, and passion for sports.
The statement lauded Adio for his invaluable contributions to sports journalism and his unwavering support for the development of sports in Kwara State, Nigeria and beyond.
It read, “Today, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Chapter rejoices with a legend in the areas of sports and journalism. Mallam Adio has excelled as an Athlete leading Nigeria to the Moscow 1980 Olympics as captain; he has also covered the African, Commonwealth and Olympic Games as a sports journalist.
“His insightful reporting and commitment to truth in journalism have earned him respect among colleagues and sports stakeholders alike as he rose to the position of General Manager, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Sports”.
The statement also highlighted Adio’s role in the growth of sports in Kwara, emphasizing his support for local athletes and sports organizations.
“Till date, no 100m sprinter has broken his record at the secondary school level. He has continuously put in efforts in promoting awareness in every community”.
SWAN Kwara wishes Mallam Hameed Adio many more years of good health, happiness, and continued success in all his endeavors.
Kwara United said in its statement that Mallam Adio, a former Commissioner in the State, an exceptional sports journalist, and retired General Manager of the Africa’s largest television network, NTA, has been a longstanding supporter of Kwara United. His invaluable advice and constructive criticism have greatly contributed to the club’s development over the years.
The statement, issued by the club Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, through the General Manager, Mallam Bashir Badawiy, the club expressed immense joy and pride in celebrating Mallam Adio’s milestone.
