Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is proud to be a Premier League title winner.
Van Dijk celebrated lifting the trophy last night after victory over Chelsea.
“It’s great to be able to call yourself a champion,” said the centre-back. “The other players think the same way.
“It is very difficult to perform so consistently all year round. Last year we were very disappointed when Manchester City made no mistake against Brighton & Hove Albion (1-4 win) on the last day and became champion.
“But we immediately thought: Next year we will be champions. That was the general feeling.”
On manager Jurgen Klopp, he added: “The next game was always the most important thing for him. We never looked two weeks ahead, but only to the next game that was scheduled, on Wednesday or Saturday. That mentality has taken us very far. The hard work that was every day supplied by these players is very special.”
