The Kwara State Government is set to challenge Delta State for a top place finish at the end of the forthcoming 21st National Sports Festival, Asaba 2022.
The State Governor Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said this on Thursday in Ilorin after receiving the festival’s Torch of Unity.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, the Governor promised to give the state all necessary support to ensure it performs excellently at the end of the Games billed for Asaba, the Delta statw capital, from November 28 to December 10, 2022.
“We know Delta State is always winning the festival, but we will make them come second this time around.
“Sports is a unifying factor and we want to ensure we give necessary attention to it, to gainfully engage our teeming youth” Gov. AbdulRazaq said.
While presenting the Torch of Unity to the Deputy Governor, Mallam Akim Saka said that by receiving the Festival Torch of Unity, the state has confirmed its participation at the festival.
The the Torch of Unity arrived Kwara at 3:30p.m from Minna, the Niger State capital yesterday.
The Governor was joined at a brief ceremony in front of the Government House by the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Malam Bola Mogaji, some of his board members and the state athletes.
Meanwhile, the Executives Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji has charged the coaches and athletes of the Commission to redouble their efforts in training in preparation for the Festival, as it has been confirmed that the state will take part in the Games.
He said the target of the Commission this time was to be among top five at the end of the Festival.
