AFCON 2023: Thuraya, Engr Olaide charge Eagles, expresses hope

The Chairman, Kwara State Football Association, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa has described the Super Eagles’ one-all draw with Equatorial Guinea at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire as not unexpected in football just as he urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the team.

Mallam Abdullahi Musa also known as Thuraya in a telephone interview said that the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the Nations Cup.

The FA boss gave examples of Nations including Argentina that lost their opening matches in such World Cup and went on to win the tournament.

Mallam Abdullahi Musa called on the Nigerians to believe in the team and not to write them off, urging the players to continue to keep playing together as a team.

Also in his reaction, a football enthusiast, Imam Olayiwola Abdulsalam described the draw as a narrow escape, advising the players to try and utilise every opportunity created.

Imam Olayiwola Abdulsalam also charged the people not to write off the team, expressing the believe that they would bounce back in their next matches against Guinea-Bissau and the host, Côte d’ Ivoire. 

A football administrator, Engineer Abdullateef Olaide urged the players to be committed and put their act together especially in the midfield which he described as the engine room.

Engineer Olaide, who expressed reservation on the technical abilities of Coach José Peseiro faulted the selection of players to the selected friendly matches emphasizing the need for more cohesion and control of the midfield so that the passes can flow.
