Kwara United bounced back to winning ways after edging Plateau United 2-1 in their rescheduled Matchday 5 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League today Thursday October 2, 2025, at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl, George Agbazika Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
The Harmony Boys started on a slow note in the tension-soaked encounter, allowing the visitors to dictate play. However, their defensive line held firm under pressure to keep Plateau United at bay.
Junior Aimufua broke the deadlock in the 45th minute, nodding home from Aliu Salaudeen freekick delivery, giving Kwara United a 1-0 lead at halftime.
On resumption, the home side pushed to double their lead, but Plateau United fought back strongly, and Temitope Vincent restored parity in the 63rd minute.
Coach Tunde Sanni responded with tactical changes, bringing on Afeez Bankole, Shola Abdulraheem, Wasiu Jimoh, and Chara Mubarak for Afeez Musa, Johnmark Aule, Issa Gata, and Ini Emmanuel.
Kwara United kept pressing, with Seun Ogunribide’s long throws constantly troubling the Plateau defense. The decisive moment came in the 79th minute, when Johnmark Aule slotted home the winner to seal all three points for the home side.
After the match, Coach Sanni praised his players’ resilience and promised to work on lapses noticed in the subsequent games.
He also dismissed report of salary cuts and ultimatum, saying there was no truth in such claims.
“As you can see, I received my full salary, and if anything like that will happen, the announcement will come from our media unit, not outsiders,” he remarked.
Seun Ogunribide’s commanding display earned him the Cyteck Man of the Match Award.
With the victory, Kwara United now have 8 points from 5 matches, climbing to 7th on the log. The Harmony Boys will next host Abia Warriors on Sunday in Ilorin.
