The Chairman of the ex-players of Fabulous Sparks Football Club, Mallam Baba Alausa Ahmed has called for unity and togetherness among the former players, so as to sustain the legacies that made the club one of the best up till date.
In his address at the End of the Year get-together and re-union party, Malam Baba Alausa Ahmed thanked the ex-players for honoring the invitation, stressing the need for unity to continue to prevail amongst members, even as he pointed out that widows of fallen members should be brought on board in subsequent gatherings.
The gathering, held Friday 30th December 2021, was a day of merriment, reunion and catching up on old times for the ex-players of the club, as they ended year 2021 with a felicitation ceremony.
The event was well attended by majority of former Sparks FC players residing within Kwara state and across the country.
The gathering also observed a minutes’ silence in honour of late Sparks players, and prayers were offered to Allah to grant their souls Aljanat Firdaus and to continue to strengthen and give families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable lose.
Deliberations that will move the association forward were made, part of which include putting measures in place to fasten up writing of a book that is aimed at documenting the history and achievements of the club; setting up a committee to visit widows and families of fallen members and giving them stipends, as well as establishing a football team to further enhance the development of football in the state and Nigeria at large.
Fabulous Sparkling Sparks football club was established in 1977 at Isale-Oja area of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. The club became the very first junior team to feature in the Ramat Cup championship in the state, where they emerged second runners-up.
Fabulous Sparkling Sparks won the Ibrahim Taiwo Cup in 1983 among other statewide championships they participated and won.
The ex-players association, which now comprise of core professionals in security, banking, healthcare, broadcasting and others have expressed willingness to make the end of the year felicitation ceremony an annual event.
Late members of the association include: Alhaji Salman Igbakanololeaiyegbo, Wahab Ahmed (Raccah Rovers), Lanre Durosinlorun (Bread), Omo Laro, Amusa Oganija, Shuaib Magaji, Woli Oloje, Bayo Onileowo, Toyin Campala, Abdulai Nababa, Sulu Sule Ajikobi, Muhammad Sidiq, Habeeb Shittu, Gani Agidi, Faruk Olodo, Raheem Bamidele, Alfa Zakariyau, Kadir Salau, Tunde Elebo (circular tete), Bamidele Aturu, Isa Olororo, Oga Mumini and Mumini Salau Olorin.
