Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reiterated his support for the development of youth and sports, even as he charged Kwara United Football Club to continue justifying the investment of government in the club.
The Number One Supporter of the Club, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji equally tasked the team to do the state proud in the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), which gets underway this weekend, after the opening game between Shooting Stars Sports Club and Inter Lagos today in Ibadan.
He made the calls at the Launch and public presentation of the landmark book on the history of the Club, “Kwara United Football Club: The history, the records so far”, co-authored by the trio of Bayour Issah, Jimoh Bashir and Akinola Gbenga Francis, published by Haytee Books, at the Conference Room of the Gabriel Babatunde Ladipo Indoor Sports Hall of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin on Thursday August 27, 2026.
While unveiling the book, Mallam Bola Magaji commended the Authors, for recording history, which he said, will be a reference point for now and later.
The ten-chapter, 258-page book was initiated to preserve the institutional memory of one of Kwara’s most important sporting brands and ensure that the story of Kwara United is available to present and future generations.
Kwara United evolved from a state-based football project into one of the prominent professional football clubs in Nigeria. The club has provided a platform for generations of footballers, coaches, administrators and other professionals, while also becoming an important part of the sporting identity of Kwara State.
The Book Reviewer, Associate Professor Ibrahim Salawu of the Kwara State University, Malete, while commending the authors, said that the
book detailed the various colorations given to the essence of the football club by the various stakeholders and interested parties over time.
He added that the authors are men with the right length, breadth, and depth of experience, capped with the requisite intellectual sagacity to contribute to the subject matter.
“Like in typical academic works, the authors ab initio, declared the sources of their information while reiterating the centrality of the research methodology of Oral Tradition as the basis upon which conclusions were made. This is quite important because of the controversial issues which the authors hope to harness in future editions.
Dr. Ibrahim Salawu is currently the Head of Department, Politics and Governance, and the pioneer Director, Centre for Public policy and Corporate Governance, Kwara State University, Malete. He is a member of the American Political Science Association and Canadian Political Science Association.
Former and current managers of the club, coaches, Supporters and Fans Clubs and other stakeholders in sports, especially football, added colour to the ocassion.
