Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State is set to lead other political heavyweights in the North Central state to the much awaited Wednesday opener of the prestigious Governor’s U-15 Football Championship, otherwise known as the Governor’s Cup.
As learnt, Governor AbdulRazaq, Senator Sadiq Umar, Senatorial representative of Kwara North, Speaker of the State Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi, Executive Chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji, and many others are set to be at the opening ceremony of the second edition of the youth fiesta.
Kwara ranks within the best five in youth soccer in the country and there are anticipation that the tournament will not disappoint in frills, thrills and best of football excitement.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa ‘Thuraya’, Kwara State Football Association, FA, Chairman, said the programme, sponsored by Senator Umar, aptly demonstrates just how ingrained football is in Kwara.
“The Governor himself will be at the opening ceremony.
“Senator Umar, the sponsor of the tournament would be at the opening ceremony, too, at the Main-Bowl ,” Thuraya said.
Over 220 participants are expected to converge at the Kwara State Stadium Ilorin from all participating 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State for the event.
According to the schedule, screening of players begins by 7am, tomorrow.
At 3. 00pm, the opening ceremony will start with match past, presentation of jerseys for all 16 participating teams as well as the unvailing and presentation of trophy by the sponsor of the tournament.
