It was yet another huge boost for the maiden edition of Alhaji Usman Mustapha football tournament after receiving the royal blessing of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari CFR.
In a courtesy visit to his place by the Kwara State Football Association and the family of Alhaji Mustapha today Wednesday December 14, 2022, the First Class Monarch who relived his experience as a retired football administrator commended the State FA for honoring the pioneer Chairman which he described as a “distinguished son of the soil”.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Kwara FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya stressed the significance of the blessings of the Emir before the commencement of the tournament, adding that the competition is aimed at celebrating the football icon during his lifetime.
“I am a frequent visitor to the palace but I think it’s very important that we get your blessings before we commence the programme which is being organized to honor one of your Chiefs and an Elder Statesman for his immense contributions to the game”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Mustapha noted that the family is appreciative of the efforts of the FA, adding that the support of the Monarch will go a long way to aid the success of the project.
The train of the visit would eventually found its way to the house of Alhaji Usman Mustapha who was visibly delighted with the tournament.
Expressing his profound gratitude to the football body for honouring him, the patriarch described the FA Chairman as an hardworking and dedicated administrator who has turned the game around for good in the State.
“I am really happy about this programme. I pray to Almighty God to grant all of you success” the elated nonagenarian said.
The tournament is expected to feature teams across Kwara State with extensive focus on discovering talents and give them platform to showcase their skills.
