The Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has again identified with the indelible marks and achievements of the present administration under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in the area of sports development.

Bode George Towoju today, the Chairman of the association, Jimoh Bashir highlighted the achievements of Governor to include the reactivation of the State Sports Festival after 15 years of inaction, renovation, upgrading and construction of facilities at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, and the Baseball Park in Adewole Area of the state.

SWAN also commended the Governor, for providing the needed atmosphere for sportsmen and women to flourish and flower, with support for sports participation and welfare, as well as the upgrading of the sports controlling body in the state from Sports Council to Sports Commission.

Jimoh Bashir maintained that the milestones and giant strides of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq towards promotion of sports are however, not in consonance with the publicity, calling on the Ministry to bridge the gap.

SWAN believed that the anticipated interface with His Excellency, the Sports loving Governor of the state will further strengthen and boost the system, and also promote information dissemination about the programmes of the government.

In his responding, the Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bode George Towoju praised Kwara SWAN for promoting the achievements of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that government will not rest on its oars in promoting sports from the grassroots.

“We thank Kwara SWAN for seeing and identifying with what our government is doing in sports, and I will want to say that more will still be done by our sports loving Governor.

While commending the late Military Administrator, George Agbazika Innih, who was instrumental to the assemblage of the facilities at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, the Commissioner lamented the lack of maintenance, which had left the facilities in bad conditions.

“Virtually all the facilities have been touched, and new ones added, and that goes to show how committed our government is, towards youth and sports development”, he added.

He pledged Kwara government’s support to SWAN.
