In a bid to change the fortunes of Kwara United Football Club for better in the ongoing 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the management yesterday, Monday January 8, 2024, reshuffled the technical crew, as former Captain and coach of the team, Coach Tunde Sanni Salihu returns as the Chief Coach.
Coach Tunde Sanni Salihu was until his appointment, the Chief Coach of Abia Warriors Football Club of Abia state, and is the Kwara State Chairman of Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA).
It would be recalled that the technical crew led by Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo were given three match ultimatum immediately after playing out a goalless draw against Niger Tornadoes in Ilorin, as a result of poor run of result.
At a meeting held at FA Office to review the performance of the club after the ultimatum, which the management viewed as poor, following just a win out of three; a 2-1 win against Plateau United and two loses, 2-1 against Pillars in Kano and 0-2 loss to Lobi Stars in Ilorin on Sunday, the shake up was approved.
Coach Dogo retains his position as Technical Adviser, and will now be assisted by Coach Sanni as Chief Coach, while Coach Olaniyi Mukaila Shittu also retains his position as Assistant Coach.
Coach Bolaji Abdulkadri will now be in charge of Kwara United junior team.
The Chairman of the Club, Kumbi Titiloye said that the arrangements became necessary in order to return the team to winning ways, even as he charged the players and the technical crew to brace up, to compensate for the commitment of the government and stakeholders.
“I have never witnessed the type of performance you are putting up in my five years in charge. How do you repay the government and the stakeholders for the hard earned tax payers money being spent on the team?
Titiloye charged the players against involvement in betting and attitudes that will undermine their abilities on and off the field of play.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa said that the football controlling body will continue to do everything possible to ensure the team gets the best, especially in relation to its duties before, during and after matches.
A prominent Football stakeholder, High Chief Alloy Chukwuemeka, who said that the performance of the team was far below expectations, reminded the players that Kwarans are not happy.
“Its an open fact that the management is providing you the right atmosphere to play, grow and add value to the team. You need to therefore, search yourself, make corrections and raise your game.
The Captain, Bamidele Aiyenugba and the Assistant Captain, Kabir Balogun and the other players pledged to promote unity and togetherness, and be commited to the cause of the team.
