Kwara United will make up for lost points – Coach Sanni declares, after loss to Tornadoes

Kwara United suffered a 2-1 defeat against Niger Tornadoes in their NPFL Matchday 21 clash at the Bako Kontagora Stadium today, Thursday Thursday 30, 2025.

An early goal from Ifeanyi Okechukwu in the first minute disrupted the Harmony Boys’ rhythm, making it difficult for them to settle into the game.

Despite their resilience, the situation worsened when Adeshina Gata was given a straight red card for a foul on Abba Khalid in the 30th minute. However, Kwara United held their ground and maintained the 1-0 scoreline until halftime.

In the second half, the Harmony Boys came out with renewed determination. Coach Tunde Sanni made tactical changes in the 65th minute, bringing on Ismaila Gata and Yusuf Omotayo to replace Wasiu Jimoh and Akanni Akeem in an attempt to turn the game around.

Wasiu Jimoh came close to equalizing in the 57th minute, but Tornadoes’ defense stood firm to deny him. Later in the game, Yusuf Sadeeq replaced Shola AbdulRaheem, but his attempts to find the net were also thwarted.

As the match neared its conclusion, AbdulRasheed Dabai doubled the lead for Ikon Allah Boys in the 89th minute. However, Junior Aimufua pulled one back for Kwara United in the 90th minute, scoring a consolation goal.

Speaking at the post-match briefing, Coach Tunde Sanni attributed the defeat to the early goal and the red card, insisting that his team outplayed Tornadoes.

“As you can see, Tornadoes didn’t win because they played better. We outplayed them, but the early goal and red card disrupted our game plan,” he said.

Despite the setback, Coach Sanni remains optimistic, vowing that Kwara United will recover lost points in upcoming matches.

Currently sitting 12th on the NPFL table after 20 games, Kwara United will look to bounce back when they host El-Kanemi Warriors on Monday from 5:30 pm, in a late kickoff at the Rasheed Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
