Semi-finalists have emerged in both the U-13 and U-17 editions of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) organized Kwara Commissioner of Police Cup soccer competitions, currently holding at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
In the U-13 category, New Talents FA defeated Lucky Stars FA 2-0 in the first quarter-final match, while Marvelous FA went through after beating Gidado FA 4-3 on penalties. The match ended two-goal apiece in the regulation time.
Afase Golden FA also lost on penalties to Achievers FA. The encounter ended in scoreless draw, while Achievers went through on 4-3 in the shoot-outs.
Makamz FA equally defeated Kwara United Academy 6-5 on penalties, after a goalless draw.
Two quarter-final matches have been decided in the U-17 category, with both Petvic Soccer College and Kwara Football Academy scaling through. Petvic Soccer College defeated Achievers FA by 4-1, while Kwara Football Academy triumphed 1-0 over Kwara Young Stars.
The other two quarter-final matches will be decided tomorrow Thursday, when Surprise FA will be taking on Young Atlas FA, and La Planet FA will be up against Flash Bombers FA.
The four semi-final matches in both categories will come up on Sunday August 29th, while the third place matches holds on Monday.
The finals have been scheduled for Tuesday August 31, at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
22 youth clubs registered for the U-13 competition, and 19 for the U-17 category of the annual competition introduced to engage the youths meaningfully.
The competition started in 2004, with only the U-13 version, while the U-17 version was introduced this year, on the request of the out-gone CP, M. L. Bagega, who is now an AIG.
Also, the current CP, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Emienbo Tuesday Assayomo has added another version, named POWA CUP for Police Officers Wives Association, which will be competed among female teams in the state, from next year.
