Ilorin East vows to retain Governor’s Cup, praises Kwara FA on grassroots football development

Defending Champions, Ilorin East Local Government has vowed to retain the U-15 Governor’s Cup football tournament, as they defeated Offa 4-1 in the semi-finals yesterday.

The Local Government made history by winning the first edition, and are again in the final of the second edition, following a good run that saw them secure maximum points from Group A, before beating Edu 8-7 on penalties in the quarter-finals, after a goalless draw at regulation time.

The Secretary of Ilorin East Football Council, Alhaji Mashood Morawo, in a statement after the semi-final victory appreciated the Chairman of the Football Council, Alhaji Toyin Olokoba and other members for their support.

He equally commended the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairperson of Ilorin East Local Government, Hajia Ayobami Seriki, the Hon. Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Education Secretary of Ilorin East LGEA, Mallam Abdulmalik Assunde and others, that support so far.

Alhaji Morawo also applauded the Kwara State Football Association for its efforts at developing football at the grassroots, describing it as the best way to develop the round leather game.

He pledged that Ilorin East will successfully defend the title, pointing out that they have the capacity and capability to do so.

The tournament, which is being competed by the U-15 teams of the 16 Local Government Areas is being sponsored by Senator Sadiq Umar, the Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial district.
