Importance of exercise stressed at Ilorin Mega Walk Out 2021

Importance of exercise, especially to the enhancement of health and healthy living has been stressed, as “Exercise for Medicine” introduce walk for all-round fitness in Ilorin.

The walk, which started at the Kwara State Stadium Complex took participants through Taiwo Road, Geri Alimi Round About, Mandate junction down to Al-Hikmah University, where it was rounded off with flexibility exercises.

Tagged “Mega Walk out 2021”, the walk also involved participants at 50 and above, who joined from Geri Alimi, and those at age 60 and above, who joined from Mandate junction.

The Chief Medical Director of Kwara State General Hospital, Dr. Ahmed B. Abdulkadri in his lecture said that exercise give the body what any drug cannot provide, adding that all parts of the body depends on how they are used.

According to him, “Regular exercise reduces rate of contacting diseases, adding that those who engage in regular exercise are unlikely to have obesity.

Leading the flexibility exercise, Professor Dominic Leah Olufunmilola of the University of Ilorin averred that movement is life.

Also leading another round of flexibilities, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji said that exercise is the best medicine for all ailments if properly done.

Mallam Bola Mogaji said that the Kwara State Sports Commission will soon introduce a weekly keep fit exercise for members of staff of the Commission, as doing so would assist them in coping with challenges at work.

The Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Noah Yusuf, while commending the organiser, stressed the social relevance of the programme, pointing out that it brews unity across various classes of personalities in the society, even as he called for it to be sustained.

Other Instructors who championed the flexibility exercises are Dr. Mrs Dauda, the Chief Athletics Coach at the University of Ilorin, Instructor Eleran Saheed of GT Fitness Centre, and the Founder, Exercise is Medicine, Korede Kehinde.

Korede, who is also the Chief Instructor, Al-Hikmah University Gym Centre said that the solution to healthy living is exercise, as he called for support to make the programme a monthly ritual.

The programme was co-hosted by the Registrar of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaja (Mrs) Rasheedat Oladimeji and Mrs Ahmed Hadiza Mubo of the Nigeria Association of Athletics Technical Officials (NAATO).

Mrs Mubo, while describing exercise as alternative to medicine, charged all to walk for 30 minutes a day, as recommended.

Walk to live was introduced by Exercise is Medicine, a privately owned brand that’s dedicated to creating healthier environment, towards improving all-round fitness.

The exercise was designed to promote health, fitness, unity and love.
